Replace window screens to prepare for the change in weather and temperature. Ensure all doors to the outside shut tightly, and check other doors for ease of use. Renew door weather-stripping if required.

Check chimneys for obstructions such as nests before the heating season begins.

Service furnace or other heating system.

Fallen trees and branches from wind, heavy rains, or winter snow and ice, can cause major damage to your home. Cut back any trees or shrubs touching the roof or exterior.

Clean/vacuum heating ducts, grills, and registers.

Store garden hoses and remove hose connections to prevent freezing and bursting.

Clean and adjust humidifier on furnace.

Clean upper-story windows (twice per year).

Inspect weather-stripping around doors and replace as needed.

Clean gutters and inspect downspouts (twice per year).
