Deep clean carpets and rugs that may have been dirtied during the winter and spring.

Inspect exposed plumbing areas for dampness. Fix loose or cracked caucking around tiles, sinks, tubs, showers, toilets, and counters.

Power wash, repair, refinish, and seal decks, reset any protruding nails.

Lubricate door hinges and locks. Oil garage doors.

Patch driveway and other concrete, or treat asphalt.

Burglarproof Your House. Before leaving home for a summer vacation, be sure to inspect the operation of automatic-light timers and motion-detector systems, especially if you're planning a long trip. Break-ins can be thwarted with security measures that prolong the burglar's time and effort.
